Jeanne Caissie was born around 1729 in Beaubassin, Acadia (New France) to Jean Caissie and Cecile Hebert. [1]
On 19 Feb 1748, at the age of 19, she married Jean-Baptiste Butteau, son of Francois Butteau and Marie Guichaux[sic]. Witnesses: Charles Heon, who signed and Francois Arsenau.[2][3][4]
In 1752 the family was recorded on the La Roque census at Port-Toulouse, Ile Royale (now Cape Breton). [5] In the family home were their daughter Marguerite, age 8 months, and Anne Clémenceau, age 7 years. They had been granted rations by the King for two years. They only had one ox for livestock, and their two arpents of land were unsuitable for growing grain due to the rocky soil and fog.
In 1758, the whole family was deported and put aboard one of two ships bound for France, the Violet and the Duke William. They all died at sea during the sinking of both ships. [1]
Anne Clémenceau is possibly the daughter of Anne Caissie, Jeanne's sister: Anne Clémenceau (abt.1745-)
Jean Bte Bouteau, of Port Toulouse, native of la Cadie, aged 27 years. Married to Jeanne Quéry, native of Port Royal, aged 23. They have been in the country for 18 months and have been granted rations for two years. They have Margueritte, their daughter, aged 8 months, and Anne Clémenceau, aged 7 years. One ox forms their whole stock. They land which they have improved was given them by M. de Villejoint. They have cleared about two arpents to make a meadow and a garden; for as regards grain not only is the nature of the soil unsuitable for its growth but the fogs that prevail in the spring prevent it from being productive.
