James married Mary Clementine Maness (born on November 8, 1846 in Robbins, Moore County, North Carolina; daughter of Asa Maness and Mary Annie (Ritter) Maness).
James died on July 26, 1921 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, aged 74.[1]
