Jessie married Charles Ryan, the son of Peter Ryan and Lucy Owensby Gilbert, marrying in Union County, Tennessee on March 10, 1912, when she was just fifteen years old; Charles was 17.[3] They moved west, where several in their family had gone to pursue logging.
Jessie Ryan died as a result of a street car railway and automobile collision,[4][5] at the age of 32. Her remains were transported back to Grainger County via Southern Railway and is buried at Cabbage Cemetery in Washburn, Tennessee.[6]
