Biography

Pennie Missouri Byrd was born 31 May 1923 in Ozark, Dale County, Alabama, United States. [1]She was the daughter of Edward Revesta Byrd and Erie May Hildreth.[2][3]

Pennie was 6 years old when the 1930 United States Census was taken. She was listed in the household of her father, Edd Byrd. Other members of the family were her mother Erie, and 7 siblings. They were living in Ozark, Dale County, Alabama.[4]

Penny [sic] Byrd was 16 years old when the 1940 United States Census was taken. She had completed 2 years of high school and was living in the household of her parents, Ed and Erie Mae Byrd, along with 3 of her siblings. They were all still living in Ozark, Dale County, Alabama.[5]

Pennie Missouri Byrd was first married to Jack Howell Pearson on 30 January 1943 in Alabama.[6] This marriage ended before 1948.

She and her second husband, Willie Jean McKnight, were married on 16 October 1948 in Newton, Dale County, Alabama.[7][8] They were the parents of at least 3 children.[9]

A 1950 United States Census record has not yet been located.

At the time of her marriage to Mr. McKnight, it was written in the announcement of their marriage that, "...She was graduated from Dale County High School, attended Alabama College at Montevallo and Rileys Business College in Dothan." The articles further stated that, at that time, she held, "...a responsible position with the Dale County Board of Education as secretary to the superintendent."[8] According to her obituary, "She was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church, a member of the Alabama Hospital Financial Management Association and served two years as treasurer."[9]

Pennie Missouri (Byrd) McKnight passed away on 10 August 1977.[1][2] She was buried in Westview Cemetery, Ozark, Dale County, Alabama.[9][10]
