Biography

Maude Bush was born on May 16, 1876, in Phillips County, Arkansas, to James Andrew Bush and Jane (McKissack) Bush. Her early years were spent in Planters Township, Phillips County, and by 1880, the family had moved to Spring Creek in the same county.

As she grew older, Maude pursued a career in education, working as a school teacher in Helena, Phillips County, by the turn of the century in 1900. On February 11, 1903, she married Rufus Franklin Milwee in Monroe County, Arkansas, beginning a new chapter in her life.

By 1910, Maude had relocated to Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. However, this period was marked by personal challenges as she was hospitalized for a nervous disease. The 1920s saw her living in Cache Township, Monroe County, followed by a move to Brinkley Township in the same county by 1930.

By 1940, Maude had returned to Little Rock, Pulaski County, where she continued to reside in 1950.

Her life came to a peaceful close on May 15, 1969, when she passed away in Houston, Harris County, Texas. She was laid to rest at Bateman Cemetery in Clarendon, Monroe County, Arkansas, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to education and enduring resilience.
