Heather Burwell lived in Putaruru, Waikato, New Zealand.

Biography

Heather was born in 1929. She was the first born child of Francis Burwell and Eunice Williams.

Her parents Frank and Eunice were farming in the Waikato when Heather was born. She was 18 months old when she had a fall down some concrete steps, fracturing her skull, causing brain damage.

The family moved onto their own farm when Heather was about 2 years old. There was a 3 bedroom "house" on the property with no doors or windows, so these had to be put in before Frank, Eunice and Heather could move in.

At first a few cows were milked by hand, while more land was cleared by hand and put into grass. The milk was separated with the cream going to the local dairy factory and the skim milk being fed to the pigs.

Heather had five younger. She attended Puketurua School until she was about 8 years of age, but after this it became too difficult and Heather stayed home while the others went to school.

After the death of her father in 1964 she continued living on the farm with her mother Eunice, while her brother Murray took over the running of the farm. Heather was a great help around the house.

Heather and her mother moved to Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty in the late 1980's and lived in a house that had been built for them on her sister Beverley's property. There she lived with her mother until they both had to go in a retirement home as her mother became quite frail and could no longer drive.

Heather passed away in 2014 at the age of 84. Her ashes were interred with her parents Frank and Eunice at Putaruru Cemetery^[1].
