I have extensive family trees on Ancestry and Family Search. I am sorting out a thorny DNA disconnect with the paper trail for my Burton line. I've hit a dead end in Wisconsin for my Olson line and another in Alsace for my Henner line. Any clues would be gratefully accepted

Hi Debra,

Are you familiar with the two lines of Ensmingers? In April 2020 after figuring out what I thought was correct, I read ensminger-1.pdf. There are two lines: Hans Meyer and Hans Gerber line. I am of the Hans Gerber line which is not in Ensminger of Alsace and Pennsylvania, 2018 edition. These German Ensmingers came to Pennsylvania from Germany. Now the Philipp you entered that died in 1712, has 2 choices on www.familysearch.org. I have been working on that site and membership is free there. Trying to keep my line corrected which is quite a task.

Sincerely, Dewald-135

Yes, you probably have interacted with Dale, a cousin of my mother. I am from the Hans Meyer line. The darlings had this tradition of naming their children after other relatives which makes me crazy sometimes, especially online. I had a pretty well documented line in the 90s, but my computer died about the same time my first husband passed away. I'm currently trying to re-create the tree personally on Reunion and update thin branches on Ancestry. But I like the WikiTree model where we create one giant tree. I will compare the two you suggest

Hi, Debra

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Deborah,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

I'm afraid that I'm suffering from "newbie" issues. I was hoping that you could help me with. I managed to somehow create myself as my own father. How to edit this error away seems to get me in an "edit loop". Also I uploaded my GEDcom to WikiTree but I can't seem to connect it to my own profile. Obviously, negotiating this site to add data isn't as easy as I found it to explore and find data--at least to me. Any assistance would be vastly appreciated.

Deborah,

It looks like you fixed the issue with adding your dad. As for gedcoms you are not actually adding it to WikiTree. You need to use the gedcompare to add your ancestors to WikiTree. Here is the link to the help page https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:GEDCOMpare.
