William was born 26 May 1794 in Ithaca, New York, son of Enoch_Burt and Thankful_Skinner_Burt. He married his first wife, Mary_Isham on September 25, 1825. They had 4 children:
After Mary died, May 7, 1838, he married Ruth_Merritt of which there was no issue.
William graduated with honors from Union College in 1818 and went on to become a tutor in Amherst College, and an instructor of an academy in Newburgh, N. Y., and again at one in Ithaca, N. Y. [2]
He represented the town of Wilbraham, Mass. in the years of 1830-1832.
His daughter Catherine married Ginery_Twichell, member of the US House of Representatives from Massachusetts 3rd district, in 1877.[1]
His son, General William Lathrop Burt a Harvard graduate, was appointed Judge Advocate of the State of Massachusetts on the Governor's staff, first with the rank of Major, then with the rank of Brigadier-General.
William died the 21 November 1858, and is buried in the Ithaca City Cemetery, Ithaca, Tompkins County, New York, USA .[3]
