Biography

Caroline appears as “Krania Burstein“, wife of “Hyman Schafer” in her daughter Ann Herzenstein’s 1918 New York death certificate. [1]

Theodore and Caroline are remembered as a devoted couple. Apparently, there may be Alsace-Lorraine heritage in one of them.[2]

Research Notes

Husband Fyador's bio had the following information: "Either Fyador's grandfather and his son, or Anna's were head of the Russian Duma (Parliament). Resided in Ackerman, south of Odessa, now known as Belgorod, Dnestrovsky. " (ref: Annie Jacob's research, 1998). I checked the following pages for father-son pairs with any last name, didn't find any. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governing_Senate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Ministers_of_Russia If someone else has another way to try to verify the family lore of ancestors in Russian leadership, that would be great. I found a record for Kreynya Burshteyn, daughter of Koppel and Ryvka, in the 1834 Ukraine Revision lists on JewishGen. She was 7 years old which could certainly fit the profile, and the family lived in Snitkova, Mogilev, Podol.[3] Wohl-56 03:57, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
