Edward Burpee served with Nova Scotia during the American Revolution.
Edward Burpee was born June 2, 1756 in Rowley, Massachusetts. He was a son of Jeremiah Burpee and Mary Saunders Burpee, farmers from Rowley.[1]
In approximately 1764, Jeremiah Burpee joined a number of others in migration North to Nova Scotia Colony with their families and founded a new community along the Saint John River. That community was known originally as Peabody and was later renamed to Maugerville.
"During the American Revolutionary war, some of the inhabitants of Maugerville were sympathetic to the rebel cause and signed a petition to have Nova Scotia join the continental congress. Under a leader named Jonathan Eddy, about four hundred men attempted to storm Fort Cumberland in late 1776. A number of men from Maugerville were among their ranks including Edward Burpee.[2]"
Edward married Hannah Gallup, a daughter of Nathaniel and Hannah (Parent) Gallop of Burton. They lived in Sunbury County and raised a family.
Edward passed away on March 28, 1840 in Burton, New Brunswick.[3]
