Biography
Stephen was born on November 4, 1811 in Sheffield, New Brunswick. He was a son of Joseph Burpee and Abigail (Gallishan) Burpee.
He married Frances Hammond on March 30, 1843 in Andover, Victoria County. She was a daughter of Rev. Lathrop Hammond.[1]
They later moved to Florenceville, Carleton County where Stephen worked as a merchant. By 1861, they had two servants : Charles Watson (12) and Mary J. Smith (20).
Frances passed away in 1890. In 1891, Stephen was living with his adult daughter Maud.
Stephen passed away on February 25, 1893 in Florenceville at the age of 81. He was interred there at the Congregational Cemetery.[2]
