During the Civil War, he served as a Private in the North Carolina Sixth Senior Reserves, Company B (Confederate States). From 1850 until 1880, his residence in Chatham County, North Carolina, can be easily documented. Like most of his neighbors and relatives, he was a farmer. As of 05 Feb 2019, no record can be found of him after the time of the 1880 United States Census.
