Biography

William (middle name possibly spelled Malachi) was the eldest son of Michael Burke and his wife Sarah née Morgan; according to the King's Inns admission papers he was born in 1780. 

He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin (BA 1802), the King's Inns, and Lincoln's Inn.  He was high sheriff of Co. Galway in 1822.

William married Anna Maria Blake.

1. Michael (Rev.) of Ballydugan, co. Galway, Incumbent of Castle Archdall, co. Fermanagh, married Isabella Mary, daughter of James Clarke, Capt. I2th Lancers, in 1848.
2. John William (Rev.), Chaplain to the Earl of Tankerville, B.A. Cambridge ; b. 1817, married Croasdailla, youngest daughter of Croasdaile Bowen-Miller, of Milford, co. Mayo, in 1881.
3. William Malachy, M.D., Registrar-General for Ireland, married Harriet Isabella, only surviving daughter of the Rev. Hugh Hamilton, in 1852.
4. Thomas James (Rev.), Rector of Babcary, Somerset, married Miss Fraser in 1856.
5. Edmund, Barrister-at-Law, ex-Scholar and Classical Moderator, Trinity College, Dublin, and Professor of History in the Elphinstone College Bombay, died at sea on his way home, 1864.
6. Mary, died unmarried 1891.
7. Sarah, died unmarried 1878.
8. Caroline Jane, died unmarried 1848.

He was buried in Mount Jerome cemetery on 13 January 1853; administration was granted on 10 Feb.
