Noel Augustin Buras, son of Joseph Guillaume Buras and Marie Louise Millet, was born 13 Dec 1774 and baptized 1 Jul 1776 at the St. Louis Church (Cathedral) in New Orleans, Louisiana.[1]

Marriages, Children

Noel first married Maria Magdalene Gautier, daughter of Pierre Gautier and Maria Anne Barbara Clombe, on 16 Jul 1794 at the St. Louis Church (Cathedral) in New Orleans, Louisiana.[2]
 Their known children were:

  1. Jean Baptiste Buras:
  2. Agustin Buras:[9]
    • Born: 18 Mar 1799
    • Baptized: 29 Mar 1800
    • Married: Unknown (possibly married a Calandreau)
    • Children: Unknown
    • Died: Unknown
Noel married a second time to Charlotte Martin, daughter of Francois Martin and Marguerite Denes on 10 Sep 1806 at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana.[citation needed]
Their known children were: Note: Noel and Nicolas were born only FIVE MONTHS apart according to the source data.
  1. Noel Buras: bn. 11 Feb 1806; bt. 4 Sep 1806[10]
  2. Nicolas Buras: bn. 14 Jul 1806; bt. 4 Sep 1806[11]

Noel married for the third and final time on 29 Jul 1830 to Clarisse Bister, daughter of Francois Nicholas Bister and Marie Louise LaFrance, at the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana.[12]

Death

Noel passed away in 1835.[citation needed]

Research Note

According to the birth records for Noel and Charlotte’s sons Noel and Nicolas, Nicolas was born only five months after Noel. More research is needed but it seems as though the birth year for Nicolas should probably be 1805 or possibly even 1804. A birth year of 1806 means that Charlotte was only 20 weeks pregnant when he was born and even with today’s medical technology, the odds of survival are very slim when born that early. If he was actually born in 1805, Nicolas would be the oldest son and he would still have been born prematurely (Charlotte would have been about 28 weeks along), but he would have been much more likely to survive.

  • NOEL AUGUSTIN BURAT(A6), born on 13 December 1774 i n Plaquemines Parish,

l i v e d much of h i s l i f e i n the Pointe a l a Hache community. He married three times, the f i r s t time on 16 July 1794(SLC, M.V. II,p.97) to MARIE MAGDELENE GAUTHIER. Marie was born i n 1776 and the daughter of PIERRE GAUTHIER and MARIE CL0MB<8>. Only one son was to survive, although I believe two were born. Noel's second wife, Charlotte MARTIN, was born i n 1776, the daughter of Francois MARTIN and Marguerite DENES. He married Charlotte on 10 September 1806, at the Saint Louis Cathedral<63>. The 1810 Census does not show any children, only a couple, both between twenty-six and forty-five<16>. There were three slaves. About 1826, he remarried again to Clarisse BISTER, widow of Honore C0SSE((J3). He appears to have died after the 1830 census, where he i s l i s t e d as having four slaves<18>. Clarisse divorced Noel before she married Andre COSSE i n 1831/2. Noel probably died before 1836. Children: by MARIE: (A6A)JEAN BAPTISTE BURAT(cl795/7); and Augustin BURAT(SLC, B.V. 3, p l l 9 ) ; by Charlotte: (A6B)Nicholas BURAT(1807); and (A6C)Noel BURAT(1809); NO ISSUE with Clarisse.
