Dr. Jonathan "John" C. Bump was born on July 30, 1839, in New York. He was the son of Alva Bump and Clarissa Blakely, his father, Alva, was 30 and his mother, Clarissa, was 27.
He married Mary Louise Lucas and they had five children together. He then married Maria LaVerne Cook on December 28, 1913, in Spokane, Washington.
He died on July 12, 1926, in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 86, and was buried in Lake View Cemetery, Seattle, King County, Washington.
