Robert was born 18 Apr 1909 to Dorothea Matilda Ertel (1888-1976) and Thomas Gifford Buckler (1877-1958) in Brookville, Franklin County, Indiana, USA.
On 3 May 1910, father Gifford was 32, mother Dorothy M 21, Martha A 2, Robert G was less than 1, and grandfather August Ertel 61 were on the farm they owned. Gifford and Dorothy had been married 3 years and they had had the two living children.
Freda (Schuhmacher) Buckler married Joseph Robert Buckler on the morning of 8 August 1934 while living at R.F.D. 3 in Hartford City, Licking Township, Blackford, Indiana, USA. [1][2]
They celebrated a nuptial high mass at 8 a.m. in Hartford City at Saint John's Catholic church. He was wearing dark blue and rose boutonniere. Bride wore white crepe, white gloves, and blue picture hat, with blue accessories. Frank was his attendant. Martha attended his bride. The Schuhmacher's held a wedding dinner at their home.[3]

In 1940, little Shirley Ann was 14 months and 3 days on her first census! Big brother Joe was 4 years and 3 weeks old. Dad Robert was 30 and Mom Freda was 25. Dad had an eighth grade education and Mom had finished her freshman year of high school. Robert was working on his own account renting the farm for $14 a month. district 5-12 Washington Township, Blackford, Indiana.He worked 52 weeks in 1939 for no income and worked 40 hours the week prior to the census. Her parents Lena and Adam Schuhmacher lived nextdoor.[4]
On 16 Oct 1940, Robert registered for World War II draft at Blackford County Local Board Select Service System, Court House, Hartford City, Indiana. Washington. The card described him as White, 6 ', 200 lbs., gray eyed, brown haired, ruddy complexioned, with a paralyzed right arm. He was 31 and share cropping for Adam Schuhmacher at RR #3 Hartford City, Blackford. Telephone number was for Chas. Bugh at Hartford City.[5]
On 11 March 1946, he returned on Trans Canada Arilines flight CF-TDJ from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to LaGuardia Airport, New York, New York, USA. He eventually bought a herd a prize Holstein-Freisian cattle for the Florida dairy farm.[6]
In 1950, they were living west of Bruns Road in Washington, Blackford, Indiana on a farm still nextdoor to the parents. Shirley was in fifth grade. Robert, 40, Freda 36, Joe 14, Shirley 11, Mary Alice 4, and Carl 2 yrs 3 mos were in the home. Dad owned the operation and was credited with working 70 hours a week, Mom and 14 year old Joe were called farm helpers credited with 14 hours a week of work[7]
He enjoyed horses.
His wife, inlaws, and children were farmers. They moved the family to Florida, and bought Holstein Friesians from Canada for a dairy farm. Eventually, the family totaled six children, two boys and four girls. [8]

He was buried just a few miles away in Oaklawn Cemetery with his wife and in-laws in Plant City, Hillsborough, Florida.[10]
