Walter Lewis Brumpton was born on 5th August 1902 at Roma, Queensland, Australia. He was the second son of Arthur Brumpton and Bridget Scantelbury.[1]
He served in the Second Australian Imperial Force during the Second World War; enlisted 20th June 1940, discharged 7th September 1945.[2] He was a member of the 2/15th Australian Infantry Battalion, a unit of the 20th Brigade, 9th Division. As such, Walter was one of the famous 'Rats of Tobruk', fought in the First and Second Battles of El Alamein, before facing the Japanese in New Guinea and Borneo.
