Note: Added by Nanelle's daughter June 2007: According to the information gathered by my mother, Nanelle Milner Armistead (1910-2001) in March 1967: Steven Mae Brown was born May 1, 1884 and died Feb. 25, 1951. She married Jesse Bunyer Armisted, born March 4, 1883, died July 20, 1918. Stevie was the third in three generations to be left a widow while still a young woman. Her husband, a salesman for J.J. Barnes & Fain Company of Atlanta, was in a car wreck and died within a few days. Company officials told his widow that he was their leading salesman. At the time of his death most of his insurance was accident insurance. However, the insurance company refused payment saying that death was due to typhoid fever. As a result the family was left almost without funds. Bad luck followed the family for one night in March 1925 the home and barn burned to the ground and almost nothing was saved. Stevie, although in poor health, did her best for her family and with the help of the two oldest sons, Cleveland and Daniel, managed to get the three youngest through high school. She lived to see all her children settled and on the way to successful lives. She was Christian woman, a Sunday School teacher, and loved her church. (Note: I have been told that one of her last acts was to attend a revival service given by a young preacher named Billy Graham.).
