Biography

Birth
Esther Brown was baptized on 23 October 1831 at Jurby, Isle of Man. Her parents were James Brown and Esther Moore both of Patrick, Isle of Man. (1)

Emigration to the United States & Wagon Train to the Utah Territory
Esther apprenticed as a dressmaker and hatmaker in England. After converting to the Mormon faith she and her parents sailed from England to the U.S. in 1856. From their port of entry in the United States they met up with other members of the Martin Hunt Handcart Company. They departed Iowa City on 25 Aug. 1856 arriving at the Salt Lake Valley on 30 Nov 1856. (7)

Marriage and Children
Esther Brown married Mormon polygamist Joseph Gurnsey Brown on 18 January 1857 at Draper, Salt Lake, Utah Territory. At this time the following children have been identified:
