90th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED DROUIN. - Many messages and telegrams of congratulation were re- ceived by Mrs. Marion Gapes on her 90th birthday on Saturday. Relatives and friends entertained her at a surprise party, a feature of which was a beautiful birthday cake make by her daughter, Mrs. W. Ayres. Mrs. Gapes's husband died 12 years ago. Born in Midlothian, Scotland, Mrs. Gapes came to Vic- toria with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Brown of Tarago, when only 5 years old. She enjoys good health, and retains all her faculties. Eight of her 12 children are living, as well as 36 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
