Biography

William was born in 1809. He was the son of Thomas Brown and Elizabeth Allison. He passed away in 1879. ^[1]

WILLIAM R. BROWN. THE two oldest citizens of Leslie Township are William Brown and his wife. Mr. Brown was born in Rutherford County, Tennessee, October the ninth, 1809. His father, Thomas B. Brown was born in Virginia in 1787 and moved to Tennessee in 1806. His mother was Elizabeth Allison, from South Carolina. In 1829 the family moved to Ray County, Missouri. December second, 1833, Mr. Brown was married to Sarah A. Relph, who was born in Stokes County, North Carolina, January the sixth, 1813, and came to Ray County, Missouri, from Indiana in 1830. In the year 1839 Mr. and Mrs. Brown moved to Carroll County, and set- tled on section fourteen of Leslie Township, and have lived ever since in this place, and are now among the oldest and most respected citizens of the County. For several years Mr. Brown was justice of the peace. Four of their six children are living. A daughter, Sarah J., is the wife of Samuel V. Endsley, one of the leading farmers of Ray County. The youngest son is in Caldwell County. The oldest son, John C. Brown, is the present Sheriff of Ray County, and the next son, Isaac R. Brown, is clerk of the Carroll County Circuit Court.
