Biography

Theresa (Brown) Dixon is a part of US Black heritage.

Theresa was born 1858 in Georgia to father born in Massachusetts and mother, Christine Brown, born in Georgia. She passed away in 1927.

In the 1870 census Theresa Brown (age 12) was in PO Astoria, Cathalamett Bay, Clatsop, Oregon, living with Stephen G Spear (age 36), cooper, and Eliza A Spear (age 32), keeping house. Theresa's color was reported as M, then changed to W.^[1]

Theresa Brown apparently married a Mr Francis about 1877, as estimated from the 1878 birth of their son Elisha B Francis. Mr Francis, born Portugal, probably passed away before the 1880 census.

In the 1880 census Thresaa Francis (age 22), servant, widowed, lived in the household of Stephen G Spear (age 48) in Clifton, Clatsop, Oregon, with her son Elisia B Francis (age 2).^[2]

Theressa Francis and Roscoe Dixon were married on 4 Nov 1880 in Astoria, Clatsop, Oregon.^[3]

They spent some time in Victoria, British Columbia, where daughter Mabel Dixon Turner was born on 14 Nov 1885 to Roscoe L Dixon and Theresa A Brown.^[4]

Daughter Theressa Virginia was born 5 Dec 1894 in Seattle, King, Washington to Theressa Brown 37 (born Georgia) and Roscoe Dixon 51(born Virginia), waiter. Theressa V. was the 4th child born to her mother.^[5]

In the 1910 census Theresa Dixon (age 52), maternity nurse, was the wife of Roscoe Dixon (age 65), city hall janitor, in Seattle Ward 12, King, Washington, with daughters Mabel C Dixon (age 24), theater matron, and Theresa V Dixon (age 14).^[6]

Her husband Roscoe Dixon passed away on 25 Jan 1916 in Seattle.^[7]

In the 1920 census Thresa Dixon (age 61), nurse, was the widowed head of household in Seattle, King, Washington, with daughters Christine Dixon (age 34), hospital nurse, and Thresa V Dixon (age 25), machine operator in US Navy Yard.^[8]

Theresa Dixon, widow, passed away on 15 Nov 1927 in Seattle, King, Washington, age 69 years 8 months 5 days. She was born to Christine DeBoin (sic) in Georgia. Informant was Mrs. Christie I Dixon of Keyport, Washington.^[9]

Her funeral was held on 17 Nov 1927. She was survived by daughters Mrs Mabel Dixon Webber and Miss Theressa V Dixon, and son Chester R Dixon, all of Seattle.^[10]

Theresa Dixon (1858-1927) was buried in Queen Anne Columbarium, Seattle, King, Washington with husband Rosoce L Dixon (1843-1916), and three children: Elisha B Dixon (born Elisha B Francis), 1878-1909, Chester I Dixon (1882-1950), and Christine M[abel] Dixon (1885-1976).^[11]
