William Brown was born in Ryhall in 1861 [1]

He was baptised in Ryhall on 28 July 1861, and was the son of George Brown and Sarah Casterton [2]

William married Elizabeth Gardham on 1 December 1885 in Hornsea. [5] [6]

Elizabeth already had a son, William, born in 1864. He was known as William Brown, although registered as William Gardham.

The family emigrated to Australia the year after their marriage, arriving in Brisbane, Queensland on 9 February 1886, on board The Merkara [7]

William and Elizabeth had 8 children, all born in Australia.
