Don is a 74 yar old retried manager and marketer, He started working on his family tree in the 1970's but took a break until he retired in 2009. Since 2009 a dear friend Dee has done an amazing amount of work helping him build a massive tree.
He has benefited from a great deal of work done on his mother's side of the family (Marshall of Nottingham and Brownlee of Bathgate) by his Aunt Sheila and Uncle Walter.
He has benefited from a lot of notes and documents left to him by his Grandmother Brown and his Great Aunt Shirley. His fathers side of the family is Brown (Glasgow and Gorbals) and McKenzie (I'll get back to you on that) .
My fathers side, both Brown and McKenzie is well documented after their arrival in the Ottawa Valley of Ontario in the early 1800's. Breaking back into Scotland with names like Alexander Brown and Andrew McKenzie has not proven easy. My nightmare is that I will end up building individual family trees for every Alexander Brown and Andrew McKenzie born is Scotland in the right time frame until I find one that disappears from the Scottish databases at the exact time they turn up in the Ontario databases.
Fortunately I live in Canada and we have long cold winters during which the family tree is a great diversion.
