Margaret was born 27 March 1832. She was the daughter of James Brown and Rachel Bell of Killybasky, Lissan, County Londonderry. [1] [2]
On 19 June 1856 at 3rd Cookstown Presbyterian, she married Silas Slane (or Sloan; age 26), son of John Sloan, of Mackenny, Kildress, County Tyrone. The witnesses were John Henry and William(sp?) McGaghy. [1] [3]
Her age was given as 23 on the marriage record, although she would have been 24 according to the birth date in the church notes.
They lived at Mackenny after marrying, raising several children.
The family migrated to Queensland, Australia aboard the Silhet arriving 19 September 1883. The passengers listed were: Silas(55, married), Margaret(50, married), William(25, married), Lizzie(22, married), Tilda(20, single) James(18), Rachel(13), Alex(13), Jane(10), Eliza(7). [4]
She passed away 6 June 1900 in Queensland. [2] [5]
John Henry might be the marriage witness - he would marry in 1859 to someone who could be Silas Slane's sister. The other witness could be a relative of Matthew's wife.
Some ancestry.com public trees conflate this couple with a different Silas Sloan (son of Thomas Sloan) who also moved to Australia.
