Biography

At the time of the 1881 census, Mary lived with her uncle Thomas Brooksby at 34 Market Place in Preston, Lancashire, England. Her father worked as a tailor and her new husband was also a tailor. Mary lived at 17 Heble Grove when on Octber 2, 1888 she married Robert Sharp. Mary was just 20 years old when she married at St. David's Church in the Parish of Liverpool, in the County of Lancaster, England. On October 7, 1897, Mary, her husband Robert and their four kids (Robert, Martha, Joseph and Bessie) all emigrated from Liverpool, England aboard the ship “GALLIA” which arrived in the port of Boston, Massachussetts on October 17th. They stayed with Mary's mother in Rhode Island.

In September 1898, their young daughter Bessie accidentally drowned in the Pawtucket river near Warwicktown, Kent County, Rhode Island. Very tragic.

At the time of the 1910 Census the family was living with his family in Kearny Ward 1, East Newark, Hudson County, New Jersey.

Then at the time of the 1920 census, the family lived in Tanners Creek, Norfolk, Virginia.

At the time of the 1930 census, Mary & her husband Robert lived in Lakehurst, Ocean County, New Jersey. He had a tailor shop.

Then Robert & Mary moved to Virginia. They lived at 139 Orange Avenue in Ocean View, Virginia until his death in 1938. Ocean View is near Norfolk, Virginia. Their son Joseph, son John and daughter Martha all lived in Virginia as well.

At the time of the 1940 census, Mary was a widow, aged 72. She took in two boarders to help make ends meet.

Mary passed away at the age of 83. She is buried alongside her husband at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
