Edith was born in 1857. She was the only daughter of Arthur Bronson and Katherine Coleman Dekay. In 1895 she married Cosimo Rucellai and lived in Venice, "in the Alvisi house, on the Grand Canal belonging to that cosmopolitan elite in relation to the whole world of culture, which played a central role in 19th century society. In fact, Robert Browning, John Singer Sargent and Henry James were hosted at Ca' Alvisi during their stay in Venice".
