Biography

This profile is part of the Broadwell Name Study.

He laid out the town of Broadwell, in Logan County, Illinois, possibly lived there for a few years. He then moved to Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas after 1870, and was a successful cattleman and entrepreneur. He may have been involved in the Oklahoma Land Rush, according to his son's find-a-grave, in 1882 (typo? land rushes occurred in 1889, 1892, etc, but not 1882), William and his son Dick, and William's brother-in-law Dr. F. M. Jordan all were able to claim land in the land rush. It seems William remained in Kansas however. What is known is that two sons, Frank and George, later lived in Oklahoma City, which was created in the first day of the 1889 land rush.
