Biography William Broadley of Bingley

30 years before the baptism of possible son Michael would be 1558. Rounding this to 1555 as a very rough estimate of William's birth.

  • Samuell, the sonne of Will’m Broadley was bpt 28 March 1591 (90/1)(p. 14) or Samuell, the sonne of Will’m Broadley was bpt April 15 1591(p. 14) Samuell, the sonne of Will’m Bradley April 16 1591 was buried. (p. 105)
  • Thomas, the sonne of Will’m Broadley was bpt 9 Dec 1593(p. 17)

According to Montes-Bradley and many other internet trees, "William Broadley of Bingley was born in 1545 in Bingley, Yorkshire, England; will dated 22 Dec 1598; died July 19, 1600 in Bingley, Yorkshire, England; will proved 14 Aug 1600"[2]

Will extract.
22 Dec 1598. William Bradley of the new close in the Parish of Bradford, co York, sicke in bodie. Left lands etc in newclose in the lordship of Shipley, co. York, for the use, behoof, bringing up and maynetenance in learning and preferment, of his children Michell, Daniell, Mathew and Sara., for the term of thirteen years. Wife Agnes named executor. 14 Aug 1600 probate Agnes Broadley widow took the oath.[3]

Bradford, Shipley and Bingley are all within a few miles of each other. Halifax to Bradford is about eight miles.

Michael - Probable Michael. 21 aug 1586 a Michael son of William Bradley of Hipperholme was baptized at Halifax.[4] A Michael Brodeley late of Shipley, but now of Bingley, yeoman, son of William Brodeley left a will dated 29 apr 1613 and probated 14 may 1613 (# 32 392) and perhaps a codicil dated,30 apr 1618, probated 20 apr 1621 (36 421).[5]
  2. Daniell bpt 26 Jan 1588/9
  3. Samuel bpt 1591; buried 1591.
  4. Thomas bpt 9 Dec 1593, not mentioned in father's will presumed to have died young.
  5. Mathew. bpt record not located, but mentioned in father's will
  6. Sara bpt record not located, but mentioned in father's will

Michael Broadley, the eldest son of William Bradley/Broadley, was baptized at Halifax as son of William Brodley of Hipperholme 21 aug 1586. There are no more children for William of Hipperholme. The next child is Daniel baptized at Bingley 6 jan 1588/9. Perhaps William's wife Agnes was from the Bradford area and that is why he moved there.

I have a copy of the will of William Broadley of the new close in the parish of Bradford 22 dec 1598 and can send a transcription if needed. No Samuel or Thomas appear in this will. The children listed are Michael, the eldest son, Daniel the second son and Matthew the third son, also daughter Sara. These are left to 4 different tutors who might carry clues to the origins of William Broadley if researched.
