Nina (Brightwell) Hawkins was born on 15 July 1854 in Gallatin County, Kentucky, United States, daughter of William J Brightwell (1817–1884) and Anna Elizabeth (Penn) Brightwell (1825–1903).^[1]

Nina (17) married William Shouse Hawkins (21) on 25 December 1871 in Gallatin County. Their children were:
