Biography

The son of Henry Brewer and Lucinda (Kelley) Brewer, John Brewer was born in Wayne County, Tennessee in 1887,[citation needed] residing with his family in Civil District 4.[1] He married Sophronia Mae Martin (1889-1956), the daughter of John Martin and Mary Donnelly, marrying in Wayne County on July 19, 1908.[2] and having seven children together. In 1910, they lived in Civil District 7 of Wayne County, farming there.[3]

John Brewer registered for the World War I draft when he was 33, registering in Waynesboro, Tennessee on September 12, 1918.[4] He stated that he lived in Collinwood, Tennessee and that he was employed there as a butcher, working for himself. He was described as a tall man with dark hair and grey eyes. He did not enlist and in 1920, living in Collinwood, he worked as a miller at a grist mill.[5] His two-year-old son, L. C. Brewer, died of pneumonia in 1922.[6] By 1930, in District 1 of Wayne County, he was again farming, working as an employee.[7]

John and his family moved to Missouri, where he farmed on his own account in Lewis Township, in New Madrid County.[8] He registered for the World War II draft when he was 55, registering in New Madrid County, Missouri on April 27, 1942.[9] He stated that he lived on Route #1 in Lilbourn, Missouri, farming on his own account there. He was described as 6'1" tall and 205 pounds; by then, his hair had greyed.

John Brewer passed away in rural Mississippi County, Missouri at the age of 58, having been struck by lightning while in rural Mississippi County,[10] At the time of his death, he lived in Charleston, Missouri. John Brewer is buried at McGlamery Cemetery in Collinwood, Tennessee.[11]
