Biography

Evelyn Marie Breeden was born on February 8, 1918, in Van Buren, Arkansas, to Calvin Hawkins Breeden and Dixey Ardella Richardson. She married Jesse Lee “Arkie” Shibley, a country singer and cattle farmer, on November 25, 1935. They had three children: Jesse Fredrick, Calvin Gene, and Dixie Sue. The family moved to Washington state in 1936, where Evelyn lived until 1951. She then returned to Van Buren, Arkansas, where she remained until her death on January 31, 2005. She was buried in Crawford County, Arkansas. In 1977. She was a descendant of John Breeden, who fought in the American Revolution. She was also related to William Henry Harrison Breeden, a Confederate soldier killed at the Battle of Shiloh.
