WAGGA, Thursday (Dec 29, 1892). A fire broke out on Pomingalarna Run, and extended in a southerly direction. On Friday night the fire spread rapidly, and reached Mr. Ashcroft's Tootboot run. Mr. Ashcroft lost several thousands of acres of grass, and thousands of sheep were rescued with difficulty. The fire slightly abated on Sunday when it reached Mittagong, one of the largest runs on the southern line. The manager, Mr. Lissons, having got timely warning, had a number of men ready to fight the flames, the wind being from the north. The fire travelled on to the homestead of John Breed, a native of Essex, who has been a resident of the district for 41 years. He and the members of his family are heavy losers. When spoken to about the fire on Christmas Day Breed said, I am 81 years of age and am now ruined." Breed states that he has lost the gathering of a lifetime.
