Biography

Alice Bredda married Valentine Prentice at Chelmsford, Essex, England on June 29, 1626. Her maiden name is not legible in the marriage record, but appears in the baptismal record of their first child, Josiah. Her origins are unknown. Her husband Valentine was baptized at Felstead, Essex, England on February 25, 1599/1600, son of Valentine and Mary (unk/widow Luke) Prentice. [1]

They emigrated to Roxbury in New England, likely on the Lyon arriving in Massachusetts Bay on November 2, 1631, with their son John, another son having died at sea. [1] [2]

Valentine Prentice and wife Alice were admitted to the Roxbury Church. Church records indicate he was made a Freeman on August 7, 1633, and died later that year. [3]

Widow Alice Prentise married second, John Watson at Roxbury on April 3, 1634. [1] [2] [3] [4] John Watson, was born about 1590 and arrived on the ship Lyonon September 11, 1632. [5]

She was apparently living when 2nd husband wrote his will in 1671/2.

Bredda-6 and Bredda-1 appear to represent the same person because: The death dates are way different, but this clearly is meant to represent the same wife of Valentine Prentice.

Is there any source for either the birth location or death date and location on this profile?

I cleaned up the profile a bit more, so we could see what is there. I'll look at it again when I get a change, probably in a couple of days.

Alice did not die in 1633 or 1643. She was still living on 4 March 1670/1 when her 2nd husband, John Watson, made his Will naming her as Executrix in that Will, and she was also living the following year in 1671 when he died because she was still named as Executrix and has a bequest mentioned in his Will. In 1671 she would have been about 71 years of age.

If you have the wrong death date for her, please correct it. And, if you see the wrong death on anyone else's website, please ask them to correct it.

If the rest of you agree with this, we should change her death date here.

From the Prentice family newsletter:

Alice Bredda Death Date By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor Fall 2011 and Revised 18 Mar 2012 Alice Bredda's parents, birth date and birth place are not yet known. She may have been born about 1600, probably in England. She was the wife of Valentine Prentice, and after his death she married John Watson.

In reviewing Ancestry.com, we note that a great many entries there show her death date as either 1633 or 1643. Those dates are wrong.
