JAMES ALEXANDER BRAUD:[1] He was born in the City of New Orleans on Triton Walk on January 13, 1848.[2] His father was Victorin Braud, a native of the Parish of St. John, Louisiana. His mother was Sarah Autoridge (Antoridge), a native of New Orleans. There is no information on how or why Jim Braud came to Texas and to the Hochheim community. One Sunday when he went to church, he was impressed with the beauty and voice of a pretty girl singing in the choir. He stared at her until she was embarrassed. He arranged to meet her----Margaret Mahala Green. He courted her and they married July 13, 1885.[3] Elder L. A. Hays performed the ceremony. Witnesses: J. L. Crawford and H. Alsup. Marriage Record No. 2373, DeWitt County, Tex. She was 17, he was 34. They lived on the Green farm. Braud was a music teacher. He taught "singing" (voice) and piano. James Braud died in 1888 and is buried in the Hochheim Cemetery.
