Biography

Born Lorenzo Dow Bell on January 05, 1855 in Jay, Indiana, United States. His parents were unmarried. Bio father was Unknown Brandt and mother Mary Bell. He married Matilda Pitsenberger on October 26, 1876 .He died on July 16, 1908 in Portland, Jay, Indiana, United States

3. William Bell
4. Earl Bell

The name Brant or Brandt was Lorenzo Dow Bell's biological father's name. I have never been able to identify that person. Parents were not married. At some time Lorenzo Dow was feuding with his mother and began to use the name Brant/Brandt but later went back to using Bell. His name is given as "Dow Brandt" on the 1850 census and he also used that name when he married. He was usually known as "Dow Bell."

• The funeral of Lorenzo Dow Bell whose death occured Thursday morning at the Jay County Hospital will take place Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from First Christian Church. Rev. Fred Stouvener will have charge of the services followed by interment in Green Park Cemetery. (item taken from old newspapers in recorders office.).

The hospital was then on the corner of High and Commerce Streets in Portland where the Elks Lodge now is. It is pictured on page 9 of the 1982 History of Jay County, Indiana.
