In 1870, "Adolp Brandies," a 48 year old grain merchant b. Prussia, lived with his wife Fredrika, 41 b. Prussia, and four children: Fanny, 19 b. Indiana; Amy, 18 b. Kentucky; Alfred, 16 b. KY; and Louis, 13 b. KY. Fanny and Amy are at home, while Alfred and Louis are in school. Three servants are living with the family: Lizette Graff, 38; Anna Schulte, 35: and Horace Taylor, a coachman, 21.[3]

1900 US Federal Census Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts

In 1900, Louis D. Brandeis, 42 b. Kentucky November 1857, worked as a lawyer. He lived at 136 Village Avenue, #251, with his wife of nine years, Alice G., 34 b. New York April 1866, and two daughters b. Massachusetts: Susan, 7 b. Feb 1893; and Elizabeth, 4 b. April 1896. Louis and Alice's parents were all born in Austria. Three servants lived with the family: Sarah L Nickerson, 22; Annie M Plunkett, 29; and Mary Gately, 26.[4]

In 1910, Louis D "Brandies," 53 b. Kentucky, was a lawyer in general practice. He lived in a place he rented at 6 Otis Place with his wife Alice G., 44 b. New York, and two daughters b. Massachusetts: Susan, 17; and Elizabeth, 13. Louis and Alice have been married for 19 years, and Alice has had two children. Their parents were all born in Austria. Three servants, all born in Ireland, lived with the family: Mary A Greeley, 21; Bridget J Keohone, 24; and Julia Keohone, 22. [5]

In 1920, "Justice" Brandeis, 62 b. Kentucky, was a Supreme Court Juctice. He lived at 605 Stoneleigh Courts with his wife Alice, 53 b. New York, and daughter Elizabeth, 23 b. Massachusetts, who worked as an elconomic research asst. for the government. The Justice's father was born in Austria and his mother in Prussia/Germany. Alice's father was born in Hungary and her mother in Austria. [6]

1930 US Federal Census Washington, District of Columbia

In 1930, Louis D. Brandeis, 73 b. Kentucky, a judge with the U.S. courts, lived in an apartment at Florence Court West Apartments, with his wife Alice G., 63 b. New York. Louis's father was born in Prague and his mother in Prussia, while Alice's father was born in Hungary and her mother in Prague. A negro servant, Elizabeth N. Proctor, is living with them. [7]
