Pvt. James Brady was married to Ann, they lived in Montgomery, Pennsylvania at the time of his enlistment into the Union Army.

James enlisted at the age of 38, on 4 September 1861 at Upper Marion, Pennsylvania. He was mustered into Company I, 51st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry on 28 September 1861.^[1]

Pvt. Brady was killed at Milldale, Mississippi on 6 August 1863. He is buried in the Vicksburg National Cemetery, Section O, 3494. His wife Ann collected on his military pension, her residence was Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.^[2]
