Catherine Christina Braddock was born in 1891 in Kew, Victoria, Australia. Her parents were Henry Braddock and Janet McCrackett. [1] Her father was an Australasian agent for the Church Parochial Mission Society, Henry was also a minister and teacher, In 1902 the family migrated to New Zealand.
On 20th November 1909, Catherine passed the Civil Service Junior Examination with credit (gain at least 60 per cent).[2]
She traveled to Cambridge University on a New Zealand University Scholarship to research, Catherine was aged ~27 when the RMS Rimutaka departed from Port Wellington and arrived in the Port of Plymouth, England on 28th August 1919[3] she spent a year doing research work in the Psychological Laboratory of Cambridge University, Catherine gained The Susan Linn Sage fellowship in Psychology at Cornell University,[4] in New York whilst preparing her thesis in the subject. She departed from Liverpool and arrived in New York on 22nd September 1920 abourd the ship Carmania[5], Catherine studied for a further 2 years at Cornell University
Catherine Christina Braddock died on 6 Mar 1922 at the Cornell University Infirmary in Ithaca, Tompkins, New York, United States, She died of pneumonic influenza[6][7]
Legacy
Kaikoura High School named Braddock house after Catherine, she was the first female Dux of Kaikoura Town School in 1916.
