Biography

Jonas Archibald Braddock was born about 1810 in Wilmslow, Cheshire, England, he was the son of Samuel Braddock and his wife Mary Goodier who had married on 26th May 1805.^[1]

Jonas worked here in Dane Mill, Cheshire 1820s

In the "1828 Pigot's Directory of Cheshire" Jonas worked as a Silk man in the Dane Mill aged 18. the silk industry was big in Cheshire.^[2]

Jonas was 24 when he married Besty Simpson on 1st June 1834 in Astbury, Cheshire, England^[3]

At age 27 Jonas and his wife had their first child, Jonas Jr. was born on 20 Sept 1837 in Macclesfield, how ever this boy died aged 2 in April 1840 in Salford, Lancashire^[4]

After the death of their son, the birth of their first daughter Caroline Simpson on 27th August 1841 in Bosley, Cheshire, England. she was baptised on 26th September 1841in Bosley, a month old.^[5][6][7]

In the 1841 census, Jonas was 30 and living with Besty in Prestbury, Cheshire, England, the census says that Besty was 15 years older than Jonas with a Residence Note of "National School"^[8]

His wife Besty died on 28th August 1849 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England and was buried at the Christ Church Cemetery, Macclesfield.^[9]

Jonas and Elizabeth Craik were both widows when they married, Elizabeth and Jonas booked the date for thier wedding on 4 March 1856^[10] , they where married on 17 March 1856 in Astbury, Cheshire, England.^[11]

Their first daughter Julia Wyville Braddock was born in 1859 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England.^[12]

In the 1841 census, Jonas was 51, his occupation was a Gas & Rates Collector and living on 26 Brook Street, East Macclesfield, with his wife Elizabeth (46), two daughters Caroline(19), and Julia(2) and step daughter Annie Measfield(12).^[13]

The last child Jonas and Elizabeth had was Jonas Archibald Braddock, he born on 3rd May 1868 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England.^[14] the child was christened on 5th June 1868 in Macclesfield^[15]

In the 1871 census, Jonas was 61 and living on 6 Crown Street, East Macclesfield, with his family, wife Elizabeth (48), daughter Julia(12), step daughter Annie Measfield(22) and son Jonas A(3) they all went to St Michael's Church.^[16]

Jonas's wife died and he became a widower on 7th May 1882, Elizabeth was aged 59^[17]

On 22nd June 1884 Jonas died at age 71, in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. He left £3,154 3s. 10d. to his brother and executor John Braddock of Brook Street who was a Book Keeper in Macclesfield.^[18]
