Biography
Felix Boyle, born about 1824, was the son of James Boyle and Charlotte McKinnon. The announcement of his ordination as an Anglican priest in 1852 said he was "of the S.P.G. Magdalen Islands."[1] The Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts (SPG) was a Church of England missionary organization active in British North America in the 18th and 19th centuries. Felix was the first permanent Church of England priest on the Magdalen Islands, Gaspé.[2]
Felix married Julia Louisa Arnold in 1852[3] and they had several children[4] After her death, he and his children moved to Quebec, where he remarried to Mary Anne Ross. He served as an Anglican priest in Frampton, Quebec, for many years.[2] In 1881, he and his wife, Mary Ann, had five children: Annie (1871), Arthur (1874), Percy (1875), Felix (1877) and Grace (1880). Three daughters from his previous marriage, Cate (1856), Carrie (1860) and Maud (1862) lived with them.[5]
Research Notes
The 1861 census was transcribed as Rod. T, a misreading of "Rev'd F Boyle".
