Biography

Conrad Boyer has German Roots.
Conrad Boyer was a Pennsylvanian.

Conrad, son of Daniel Boyer and Anna Maria Kissinger,[1] was born 8 September 1824 in York, York County, Pennsylvania.[1] His parents had him baptized 18 November 1824 at Christ Lutheran Church in York.[1]

  • Residence (1850) Spring Garden, York, Pennsylvania[2]

On 25 December 1851 at Christ Lutheran Church in York, he married Margaret Ann Adams,[3] daughter of Oliver Adams and Anna Maria "Polly" Benss.[4] They had 12 children:

  • William Pierce Boyer (b. 12 October 1852;[5] baptized 20 February 1853;[5] m. Ann Rebecca Barnes;[6] d. 18 November 1940).[7][8] Guardian of two children.
  • Calvin Augustus Boyer (b. 9 August 1854;[9] baptized 22 April 1855;[9] m. Ellen Minerva Blauser;[10] d. 11 May 1923).[10] Five children.
  • Mary Virginia (Boyer) Frey (b. 3 April 1856;[11] baptized 16 November 1 t856;[11] m. Clinton David Frey;[12] d. 23 November 1926).[13] Five children.
  • Walter Erasmus Boyer (b. 9 May 1858;[14] baptized 6 December 1858;[14] m. Elizabeth Wilt;[15] d. 25 May 1931).[16] Two children.
  • Martha Eliza (Boyer) Stair (b. 25 November 1859;[17] baptized 26 February 1860;[17] m. Albert Philip Stair;[18] d. unknown). One son. Her husband is buried with his parents, rather than with Martha. They may have separated or divorced and she may have remarried.
  • Alfred Boyer (b. about 1861;[19] d. unknown).
  • Emma Jane Boyer (b. 2 March 1862;[20] baptized 2 August 1862;[20] d. unknown).
  • Alpheus George Benton McClelland Boyer (b. 23 January 1864;[21] baptized 27 November 1864;[21] m. Carrie Bell Keller;[22] d. 22 April 1945).[23] Four children.
  • Rufus Samson Boyer (b. 25 November 1865;[24] m. Salema Alice Nicholas;[25] d. 10 June 1942).[24] Six children.
  • Marvin Adams Boyer (b. 29 October 1867;[26] baptized 8 November 1868;[26] m. Lydia May Bender;[27] d. 30 December 1935).[28] Nine children.
  • Harry Daniel Boyer (b. 2 August 1870;[29] baptized 12 April 1871;[29] m. Annie Flora Campbell;[30] d. 12 January 1952).[31] Four children.

After their marriage Conrad (age 35, tailor) and Margaret (28) settled in Spring Garden Township, where in 1860 they resided with their children William (8), Calvin (6), Mary (4), Walter (2) and Martha Boyer (six months).[33] They remained in Spring Garden Township until all their children were grown and established on their own. By 1870 the household had grown to include Conrad (age 47, prosperous storekeeper), Margaret (37), William (17), Calvin A. (16), Mary V. (15), Walter E. (11), Martha E. (9), Alfred (8), Rufus (5) and Marvin Boyer (3).[19]

Although the household was somewhat reduced by marriages before 1880, it still encompassed Conrad (age 55, tailor) and Margaret A. Boyer (48), their children Walter E. (22, brick moulder), Martha E. (20, works at home), Alpheus G. B. (16, laborer), Rufus S. (14, laborer), Marvin A. (12), Harry D. Boyer (9), and her grandson Charles E. Stair (eight months).[34] The recession of 1873—called the Long Depression— may have affected the family. While the older children were still in school in 1870,[19] those of the same age were working in 1880.[34]

With all of their children out of the family home by 1900, Conrad (age 76, tailor) and Margaret A. Boyer (68, mother of 13, nine living) had purchased a residence on East Market Street in the city of York, York County, which they shared with their grandson Charles Stair (21, tinner).[35]

  • Burial Prospect Hill Cemetery, North York, York, Pennsylvania[36]

Conrad was born in 1824. He passed away in 1904.
