Isaac was born in 1802. He was the son of James Boyd and Elizabeth Mannock.
Isaac married his first wife Elizabeth Cathrine Graves (1803 - 1836) on Sept 5, 1824 at Spitalfields. They had 4 children together. Elizabeth died in 1836 at age 33. Isaac had a monument laid for her in the Christ Church, Spitalfields, (London), England. It is the only personal one in the church which shows how much the church and community thought of them.
He married Frances Camilla Huitson on 4 January 1838 at Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney, London, England.[2] He had 5 more children with Frances.
Isaac's occupation was as a Silk Manufacturer. He was considered a master weaver of Spital Square, London.
In about 1840 he fought a case in the court of law, claiming legal claim to a French title and lands. However it looks to be he was unsuccessful. The estate claimed had upon it seven churches and Isaac was informed of the estate was really entitled to the family it would now be forfeited through the Franco-Prussian War. Therefore it was presumed it was entitled at the Alsace or Lorraine.
In the 1841 census, its recorded that he lived at 5 Spital Square, and his occupation noted was silk merchant.
1845 and 1850 it is noted that Boyd and Harmer occupied 20 Spital Square.
About 1850 he was made a Life Governor of the French Protestant Hospital in South Hackney nearby.
UK 1851 Census: Living with his wife and 9 children in Spital Square, Liberty Of Norton Folgate, Middlesex, England. Also in the household was one servant.
As well in 1851 Isaac was recorded as a silk manufacturer employing 50 men and 50 women and 20 boys. He lived at 20 Spital Square (Norton Tolgate, St. Mary's, Tower Hamlets). On June 25, 1851 he was declared bankrupt and on Dec 15, 1851 he was jailed a the Old Bailey for a year.
In 1971 census he was a retired silk merchant living at 25 Melhley Street, Lambeth. Thus had moved out of the area he had been born in and spent all his working life in.
He passed away in 1872 at the age of 70.[3]
His second wife Frances lived on until about 1899 and died in Wandsworth.
