== Biography == To this Charles Bowles and his wife, Nancy Barrie, there were born a daughter and three sons, and their names were Eliza, John, Thomas and George. The daughter died shortly after her marriage to a man named Wilson. I still recall how, in the month of October on a certain date, Grandmother was wont to go into mourning and, with tears and lamentations, remember her only daughter's death. I never heard my father speak of his sister. From a casual remark I heard my mother make, I gathered her marriage was an unhappy one.^[1]
