Biography

This profile is part of the Bourque Name Study.

Anne Marie Bourg, daughter of Martin Bourg and Marie Potet, was born c.1691 in Acadie when it was still under French control. [1] She was age 2 and living in Port Royal with her family in 1693.[2] Before her birth her family was also counted in Port Royal in 1686,[3] so her birthplace is assumed to have been Port Royal.

Anne Marie was only 15 when she married Alexis Aucoin in Cobequid in 1707.[4]

Their known children were:

  1. Pierre Aucoin (1708 –1757)
  2. Sylvain Aucoin (c.1711 – 1759)
  3. Marie Aucoin (c.1713 – before Feb 6 1759)
  4. Alexis Aucoin (1717 – c.1759)
  5. Jean Aucoin (1719 – c.1758)
  6. Joseph Aucoin (c.1721 – 1788)
  7. François Aucoin (1725 – after Feb 23 1767)
  8. Alexandre Aucoin (1725 – 1780)
  9. Claude Aucoin (c.1728 – 1759)
  10. Hyacinthe Aucoin (1732 – 1808)
  11. Amand Aucoin (c.1733 – 1756)
  12. Cherubin Aucoin (1737 – unknown)

The French and the British battled sporadically for control, until the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht ceded Acadie to the British. Acadians were allowed to remain on the land they'd farmed for generations, as long as they swore allegiance to the British king-- a temporary fix. The Great Upheaval started in 1755, and presumably was the cause of her husband's death.

Anne Bourg, veuve Aucoin, died at Boulogne -sur-Mer, Picardie, France on 14 January 1766 and was buried at the cemetery of Paroisse Saint-Nicolas.[5]
