Biography

In the 1881 census Mary Bouchard (age 6 months) was in River Bourgeois, Richmond, Nova Scotia.^[1] She was enumerated in the same household in 1901.^[2]

In the 1911, 1921 and 1931 censuses, Mary Bouchard was enumerated in her parents' household. In 1911 she was described as single, and in 1921 she was described as married. In 1931, she was described as "Mary Landry", a widow, with two children. See the research notes for a discussion.^[3][4][5]

Mary Ann Bouchard Landry died on 4 April 1974 and was buried in River Bourgeois, Richmond, Nova Scotia.^[6]

Research notes

The father of Mary's children was Henry Landry, but the support for Mary's marriage to Henry Landry is slightly equivocal. They are not recorded living together, and they might in fact never have actually married. After the 1911 census, in which Henry appears, widowed,^[7] there are no further direct records of him, whether they are marriage, census, or the birth records of his children.

Meanwhile, in the 1911 census,^[3] Mary is living with her parents, single, with a 1 year old brother Henry (who is probably her son John). In the 1921 census,^[4] Likewise, the obituary of Andrew also makes clear he was the son of Henry Landry and Mary.^[8]

We might assume that Henry was the biological father of Andrew and John. Another possibility is that he married Mary at some point after 1921, adopted her children, and then died before 1931.
