I am a retired ex-steelworker, environmental chemist, consultant and water pollution control expert who spent most of his working career inspecting government facilities at DOE and DOD sites, and assisting the EPA by visiting iron, steel, and ferrous and non-ferrous foundries that were using exemplary pollution control methods. My studies at four different universities were interrupted by two Army tours of duty, so it took 16 years to get a degree. Our family consists of my wife, Louise, two sons, Joel and Jeff, one daughter, Beth, plus six grandkids and two great-grandkids.
I got involved in genealogy because my wife Louise's mother was a descendant of Herman R. Rolfe, and everyone with a Rolfe in their background asks the same question, "Am I related to Pocahontas?" I found little connection between John Rolfe and the New England Roles, but I was hooked! Each new name led to "Well, who was his/her mom and dad? We will never finish our searches! But at 87 years old, I still learn something new every day, and I am sure most of the hundreds of contributors to wiki tree share that feeling. I live near Pittsburgh, worked in a now defunct steel mill, later consulted with government agencies, the EPA, DOE, and DOD, and retired 21 years ago. My three kids put me on the internet as an 87th birthday present in April, and here I am.
WikiTree continues to amaze me! The effort volunteers go through to eliminate duplication, find obscure sources, help each other solve problems and do it all with courtesy and consideration is commendable. I have been gently chided for lack of sources, so it is time for me to improve my submissions in that area. We all want to be able to follow each step in this process. At age 87 I do not have much more time to participate, but let me keep hunting and hopefully adding to this noble cause - One family tree for all to use.
