Biography

John Ledith Bond was born in 1908. He was the son of John Bond and Sarah Whitley. He passed away in 1964.
OAKDALE (Spl.) - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday for John L. Bond, 55, who was electrocuted at noon Monday when he came in contact with a power line three miles southeast of here. Authorities said Bond accidentally drove his pickup truck across a felled power line that was partially suspended above the parish road by a utility pole. An Allen parish road-grading crew said they accidentally ran into a loose grounding cable from a high voltage line and pulled down the pole with the grader. When Bond approached in his truck, the workers asked him to call the utility company so the power could be shut down, they said. Bond drove on and in trying to pass around the pole, apparently didn't see the line on the road, authorities said. When the wire came in contact with the vehicle, Bond stepped out of the truck and was electrocuted. He was pronounced dead at 12:30 p.m. by Dr. Don Nesom of Oakdale. Services will be held from the Mt. Hope Baptist Church south of here with the Rev. Archie Calcutt officiating. Burial will be in Cryer Cemetery under direction of Ardoin Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melinda Bond; three sons, Buford and Raymond Bond, both of Oakdale, and Everett Bond on duty with the U.S. Navy; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Stalsby of Oakdale; two brothers, Louis and Lawrence Bond, both of Oakdale; seven sisters, Mrs. Belle Self of DeRidder, Mrs. Mary Self of Simpson, Mrs. Annie Birchfield of California, Mrs. Rhoda Messer of Port Arthur, Tex., Lella and Della Bond, both of Beaumont, Tex., and Mrs. Flora Thompson of Leesville; and six grandchildren. Research Notes

[Dowden-595 | William Thomas Dowden, Jr.] adds this note as a form of explanation as to what brought my research to this person. One of my "great -granduncles", James Dowden II, had two wives, one of whom the Louisiana Marriage License says was "Mrs. Sarah Jane Cryer." OK, so Findagrave reports two "Sarah Jane Cryers"; the older of the two was born Sarah Jane Cryer, but the other lady, "Mrs. Sarah Jane Cryer" married a Mr. Cryer. So it seems that she has a connection with the Bond family which I am still trying to unwravel since that "Bond connection" was with a Mr. John Bond. So far, I have found three generations of "John Bond." Thanks for reading this explanation.

I am moving this to comments as it is more a comment than research.

I don't think that Sarah Jane Bond Cryer was the Sarah Cryer married to your relative. According to the 1870 census, Sarah Cryer Dowden was born in Arkansas in 1828 ("United States Census, 1870", database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M87J-9VG : 29 May 2021), Sarah Dowden in entry for James Dowden, 1870.). Sarah Jane Bond Cryer wasn't born until 1860. She was married to a Jefferson Cryer.
