Biography

Everard was a Friend (Quaker)

Everard Bolton, his wife Elizabeth, and their two eldest children, came to Pennsylvania from Herfordshire, England. His certificate of removal from the Ross meeting dated 5mo (July) 18, 1682 was read at the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting at Arch Street, at the family was accepted into fellowship.

The family settled in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, on a tract of land a little east of the site of the present village of Milestown. This tract was presented to his eldest son in 1711, but the deed of transfer was not recorded until 1760. Everard Bolton was an active member of the Society of Friends, having been Treasurer of Abington Meeting for nearly forty years. He was much esteemed, and was appointed a Justice of the Peace by a Council held at Philadelphia, May 30, 1715. Elizabeth Bolton died June 5, 1707, and Everard subsequently married Margaret, widow of John Jones, a merchant of Philadelphia. Everard Bolton died in 1727, leaving eleven children, all by his first wife. They were Everard, Elizabeth, Hannah, Mary, Samuel, Abel, Sarah, Lydia, Isaac, Rebecca, and Martha. Margaret died in 1742[1]

1693: 26, 12th month (February 26): Everard Bolton, Giles Knight and John Fletcher were appointed to represent the Abington Monthly Meeting to the Quarterly Meeting.[2]

1699: 4th month (June, 1699) Everard was a witness to the marriage of Isaac Knight & Mary Carver.
