Raleigh Edgar Bollinger was born on November 21, 1875 in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina, United States to parents Levi Bollinger and Sarah Johnson . [1]
There is an attached 1898 Military source believed to belong to this Raleigh Edgar Bollinger [2]. It lists his service during the Spanish American War (which would make sense given that the Georgia troops had a very polarizing experience despite the overall victory) Attached will show his rank as Private in Company B of the Georgia Infantry. [3] I tried tagging and categorizing by every bit of that detail and couldn't get anything so if anyone has an "in" with the categories area feel free to add.
Raleigh Edgard married Rosa Ella Fry/e December 24, 1902 in Catawba, North Carolina. [4]The couple had four known children:
In 1917 Raleigh apparently either volunteered or was called upon for military duty and he reported to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, U.S.A. We have his August 27, 1917 Muster Roll [9] and a "United States Civil War and Later Pension Index..." source card [10] with a link to a Fold3 document showing the same Enlistment Date of August 27th, 1917 and a Discharge date (with the box checked beside "Invalid") for October 19, 1917. [11]
He was working as a Carpenter again the next year when he signed his World War I Selective Service System Draft Registration Card on September 9, 1918. [12] Accorsing to the Draft Enlistment Card he was "tall, medium build, (with) blue eyes and auburn hair" [13]
He was killed by a myocardial infarction resulting from a coronary occlusion on February 13, 1957 in Catawba Hospital[14] most likely from living with Arteriosclerotic Heart Disease. [15] Raleigh was buried in Newton at Old St. Paul's Church Cemetery. [16]
